RECREATIONAL AVIATION

You can fly! Join thousands each year who discover the thrill of flying. Traditional flight training is offered to the general public by Sanford Aircraft Services and to its members by the Wings of Carolina Flying Club. Though it's possible to become a licensed pilot in as little as two months, most students complete the required 40 to 80 hours of flying time in six months to a year.

Or, experience flight in a light sport aircraft, a smaller and lighter aircraft designed to provide a more affordable and accessible way for enthusiasts to begin flying. Some earn the Sport Pilot certificate in as few as 20 hours of instruction; training is available at RALEIGH EXEC from B-Bar-D Aviation.

» Pilot Instruction and Testing. Biennial flight reviews, instrument competency checks and safety seminars and expert instruction are offered for pilots. Any Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) test can be completed at RALEIGH EXEC's testing center. The center uses the LaserGrade service, providing licensure and certification testing for scores of federal agencies and professional associations.

» Hangars and Tie Downs. Hangars and tie-downs to secure aircraft are currently available, and under a current proposal to expand the jetport, another 20 acres of hangar space may be added over the next few years.

» Wings of Carolina Flying Club. Based at RALEIGH EXEC, the Wings of Carolina Flying Club is one of the oldest flying clubs in the nation and serves more than 250 members from the Research Triangle, Southern Pines and Fayetteville areas. Formed in 1961, originally as the Chapel Hill Flying Club, Wings of Carolina provides flight training and ground schools to the general public, and economical aircraft rental, aviation services and social opportunities for its members.
